Hot and Cold…

There’s been a lot of buzz going around the country about the snowstorms hitting the east coast and moving westward across the nation this winter, and many people have started writing off the theory of global warming because of this. yeh, yeh… before things get out of control and people start believin’ it, lets address some things.

global-warming

So let’s get scientifical for a moment: global warming is the theory that there is an increase in the Earth’s average atmospheric temperature that correspondingly causes changes in the climate, that may result from a greenhouse effect brought on by man. temperature changes do happen naturally every couple thousand years or so in warming periods and ice ages, but with our society becoming industrialized in the past century, we have emitted massive amounts of carbon dioxide (among other chemicals) into the atmosphere. thus, the extra carbon dioxide from cars, factories, etc. thicken our already thin atmosphere, trapping some of the suns radiation here on Earth and increasing global temperature. being completely brief here, that’s pretty much it. but from a popular standpoint, all we keep hearing about is heat, heat, heat. cause that’s what people are afraid of.

what doesn’t get coverage is that a warming planet results in more ferocious storms, examples being the increased pattern of hurricanes that have happened over the past few decades. warmer air carries more moisture. research has stated that 61-80% of snowstorms of 6+ inches occurred during winters of above normal temps and the same results with winters that were wetter than average. so winters that are wetter and warmer will bring heavier snowstorms; extremes of cold and hot. but does crazy amounts of snow in one country discredit global warming? answer is no. can one storm or one event prove or disprove global warming? no, its about years, not weeks or days. don’t let obvious political agendas influence you. sorry Fox News.

would you really stand out in snow to try and let that be your proof against global warming?”

A professor of mine a while back said our planet’s climate is like a plate balancing on a pole, it could fall to either side or stay balanced, depending on who’s balancing it. our earth can either step into an all out ice-age or heat up like all hell. it’s up to us. so stay civilized.
