GOP goes Hollywood

Posted in Life on March 31st, 2010 by J. Duaine

$17,000
$13,000
$9,000

these are just some of the numbers spent on private jets, limos, and Beverly Hills hotels. By whom you ask? Not some actors, fashion designers or musicians, but another type of outside high-roller: the Republicans. But hold up, before we sit here and bash on ‘em for all the cash they have burned on luxuries, especially in a time of economic struggle, we have to realize that when it comes down to it both the dems and GOP are guilty of the same exact thing. It was revealed that Dems spent $45,000 on two hotels in February. Two hotels? Uh, no one ever hear of expedia.com? So this isn’t a new thing, obviously. Politicians are the problem, they get too comfortable in those seats in Washington.

BUT, the thing just ready for a nationwide bashing is this little point:  the GOP actually came down to Hollywood to throw a fundraising event- at a strip club. oh no, hold your horses, this was not any strip club. This strip club is what is known as a voyeuristic club, set up like one of the famous scenes out of “Eyes Wide Shut.” The joint is called Voyeur West Hollywood, check it out for yourself here. It is described as a “bondage-themed nightclub featuring topless women dancers imitating lesbian sex.” Seems like a perfect place for the leaders of our country to meet. Though the head of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele, was not there at the time, this without a doubt is causing him a headache or two. Hey, it’s what happens when conservatives run into Los Angeles: they end up realizing they like bondage. Can’t blame ‘em, it’s just how we roll.

FOUND FOOTAGE: 1997 BRAZIL GRAFFITI WITH OS GEMEOS, RAVEN & SONIK

12ozProphet Presents… Found Footage: 1997 Brazil Graffiti with Os Gemeos, Raven & Sonik from 12ozprophet on Vimeo.

Raven and Sonik went to São Paulo, Brazil in December of 1997 to put together a story on Brazilian graffiti for 12ozProphet’s sixth issue. Twist had connected us with Os Gemeos, and we went there to introduce them to the world via our magazine. The sight of São Paulo and the otherworldly graffiti scene exploding over its gut-wrenching social landscape, the peculiarly Brazilian collision of poverty and wealth, was a complete shock. Meeting Os Gemeos – as well as Nina, Vitche, and Herbert Baglione, gave us friends for life, and the sight of their work was a glimpse into the future of an art movement we thought we knew, but even now, more than a dozen years later, has yet to catch up. Here’s a short video edited from footage thought to have been lost for well over a decade.

The Smart Soccer ball….

Posted in All, Art, Culture, Sports, Technology on March 29th, 2010 by Bear

This is dope. Although still a concept, Mexico city design agency AGENT has developed a soccer ball with GPS-like functionality. In essence, this tracking system can alert officials as to whether or not a ball is in-bounds or has crossed a goal line. The technology includes accelerometer based velocity tracking to detect aspects of force and pressure being able to detect pressure and force.

from Agent: ‘CTRUS’ functional principle is based on the mechanical properties of its materials. it is composed by an inner structure (skelle-core) and an outer net-embedded shell, made out of reinforced elastomers. These pieces have different durometer according to its structural location. the flexibility provided by its materials, emulates the bounce of an inflated pneumatic soccer ball, but offers the advantage of not loosing air. CTRUS doesn’t need air in order to perform.
