Civil 2010 Summer Collection:Buona Estate

Posted in All, Art, Culture, Fashion, Life on April 30th, 2010 by Michael

“Civil is proud to present our Summer collection,” Buona Estate”, a tribute to both the Euro-centric nature of the high fashion world and the street forward thinking of Los Angeles. Inspired by summertime in Europe, this collection is a testament to the true renaissance man, the thinker, the activist, the humanitarian, the man who can do everything. As an iconoclast who has paid dues with nothing to lose, Civil reflects the marriage of old world European aesthetic with a modern day twist that carries a tinge of the street flavor we all need”.

Now up for your viewing pleasure…Enjoy!

This is Alabama: WE SPEAK ENGLISH

Posted in Life on April 29th, 2010 by J. Duaine Hahn

See the video here.

Good to see Alabama leading the way in embracing racial diversity. Tim James, who is running for Governor of Alabama, released this ad featuring his solution for solving Alabama’s fiscal woes: eliminating driver’s license tests that are not in English.

Yes, here in America, we have adopted English as our primary language. Now, is it mandatory? By no means. Maybe instead of eliminating all other languages offered for driver’s license tests, Alabama should modify the way they distribute or print these tests. their has to be a broader solution that does not include wiping out entire groups from using the tests; Mr. James called himself a business man, he should know discrimination would not be a good business decision.

The recent passing of SB 1070 in Arizona has raised concern over the state of “race” in the US, and this does nothing to soften the blow for minorities in America.

Good luck, Mr. James. I have higher hopes for your state.

WHO IS BANKSY!??! SECRET REVEALED!!

Posted in All, Art, Culture, Humor, People, Uncategorized on April 27th, 2010 by Michael

So over the past few years I’ve been following Banksy’s work around the globe. I traveled far and wide behind his tracks but never seemed to catch him until now!!! One  week ago I was in San Fransisco and I noticed Banksy had been bombing the town. I picked a high key spot during the day, which was a roof top and camped out all night. Around 12:30 p.m someone appeared… yep you guessed it…BANKSY. I ran up to the roof in pure excitement. So excited I almost got hit  by a car in the street. I started to climb the drain pipe on the side of the building…I didn’t want to scream and scare him so I became a quite little mouse. Finally I got up onto the roof… and there he was,  painting the wall with his back toward me. I knew this moment had finally come once he would turn around and reveal his face… I moved my feet a little and kicked some of the loose rocks on the roof…it made a noise and he turned to look to see what it was. I will never forget this moment….  I was shocked beyond belief…almost fainted when I saw who it was…but I promised once I found out I would let the world know…so here he is

Phil Frost at Known Gallery

Posted in All, Art, Culture, Events, People, Photography, Places on April 26th, 2010 by Bear

Saturday, I had the chance to stop by Known Gallery to check out the work of Phil Frost. Phil has had notoreity as a next level artist for sometime now. In 2005, his work has been placed alongside Picasso and Dali’s  work in New York as well as is the current work featured on Undftd’s current billboard.

About Phil:

Phil Frost is a self-taught artist whose unique work brings together aspects of urban culture, abstraction, tribalism, and design. In the 1990s, Frost honed his skills by painting walls, found objects and street detritus with his intricate, compulsive and highly evolved form of graffiti. He painstakingly crafts his colorful mixed-media paintings and totemic sculptures by collaging layers of found imagery on grounds of flat, symmetrical black-and-white patterning. The recipient of several grants and awards, Frost’s idiosyncratic work is included in prominent public and private collections worldwide. He has exhibited widely in both galleries and museums in the US, Europe and Asia. His work has been featured in exhibitions at institutions such as The Aldrich Museum, Queens Museum of Art, and in the Beautiful Losers traveling exhibition, which was shown at the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia.

This one is clever.Crowd.

Here are some photos of the current billboard project that Phil has done courtesy of Undefeated:

Bboy Battle Review:BIG TOE CREW vs EXG (FLOOR WARS 2010)

Posted in All, Bboy, Bboy Battle Review, Culture, Events, Hip-Hop on April 24th, 2010 by Michael

I will give this battle a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It started great… then had a slow point, but picked up and became exciting again. Dope bboys…props to both crews.

Highlights

1:45-  This is the point in the clip where the battle takes its turn from decent to..WOW!

-Starts with a cool power set, ending in a freeze on beat.

-Followed  by an air twist landing directly on his back….Intensity of the battle just went up about 6 notches! The dude takes his shirt off…..okay. Then does his set; which is cool but a lil sloppy cause he’s probably too pumped.

-Immediately followed by one of my favorite bboys in this battle…dude in the purple (don’t know his name) but he does a head slide to a flip clean as f**k.  Followed by a dope set on beat.

Skip 3:25- This guy slows the tempo of the battle. No offense.

4:00-Ups on beat to a nice inward hand glide.(Probably want to watch this part if you don’t watch bboying a lot…you will probably be amazed by this crowed pleas-er.)

Do not skip-pretty much the rest of the battle is dope. Especially the routine.
