Our friends at Hurley and Livery Design Gruppe have embarked on a project that takes creativity and design to a new level. Last year, the superduo also did a bike for the US open with artist Dalek.

The “Phantom 4D” pack is part of a larger project that also encompasses a pair of Air Max 90s, Skullcandy Headphones and board shorts. The “Phantom 4D” graphic is the latest iteration of a 3-time SIMA award-winning boardshort was created by artist Dalek. The shorts themselves feature Nike Flywire technology and a “biomimic” waistband based on a Chinese fingertrap. The whole project will be unveiled on July 7 at the opening of Nike’s new Salvation Malibu store.

Mirroring Phantom 4D’s innovation-meets-lifestyle-meets-art, the custom-created LDG capsule collection bike is the latest bike collaboration between LDG and Hurley, hand-painted by LDG’s Joshua P. Harris. The 5 limited-edition Phantom 4D bikes will be on display at select Hurley events, starting with the Salvation Malibu store opening event.

“Youth-lifestyle brand Hurley is celebrating the launch of its new Phantom 4D boardshort and corresponding limited-edition capsule collection at the VIP opening party of Nike’s new Salvation Malibu store on July 7, 2011.

Taking the 3-time SIMA Award-winning boardshort to the next level, Hurley launched the Phantom 4D on June 15, 2011. Incorporating Nike Flywire technology, Phantom 4D has a first-of-its-kind “biomimic” waistband as well as patented Phantom construction featuring 4-way recycled superstretch fabric, water repellency and second-skin movement.

The Phantom 4D technology was then brought to life via Hurley-commissioned artist James Marshall (aka “Dalek”) who gave a language to innovation via his striking product visual – a geometric, multi-dimensional array of color. Dalek also invited friends of the brand to showcase their own innovations through a Phantom 4D-inspired capsule collection.”

“The lead of the capsule collection is a limited-edition Nike Air Max 90 + Hurley sneaker featuring custom-created Dalek Phantom 4D-inspired artwork. Only 500 in existence, the shoe will be available in extremely limited quantities at select Nike retail locations beginning July 8, 2011.

The capsule collection also features a custom-created Livery Design Gruppe (LDG) fixed-gear bike, hand-painted with the Dalek 4D visual. Mirroring Phantom 4D’s innovation-meets-lifestyle-meets-art, the LDG capsule collection bike is the latest bike collaboration between LDG and Hurley. The 5 limited-edition Phantom 4D bikes will be on display at select Hurley events, starting with the Salvation Malibu store opening event.

The collection rounds out with limited-edition Phantom 4D Skullcandy Headphones. With a mere 50 of them to be released, Skullycandy’s Phantom 4D capsule collection headphones will feature the same technology as the highly-anticipated Skullcandy MixMaster Mike headphones but wrapped in Dalek 4D artwork.”

Hurley and Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd have launched an exclusive art-inspired t-shirt collection to benefit H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Everywhere). The fashion, art and surf communities gathered last night to celebrate the launch at the Sea-thos Foundation headquarters in Costa Mesa, Calif. Brandon Boyd, Bob Hurley and friends fêted the launch with a cocktail party and art show featuring Boyd’s original works and collection of t-shirts.

A mutual appreciation for surfing, art and music inspired the collaboration between the longtime friends. Boyd, the lead singer of Incubus, is not only a musician but an accomplished artist and surfer. The collaboration fuses his love for the ocean with art and the desire to make a difference.

“We have done projects together in the past but it seemed like it was time we truly put our collective heads together to make a real dent in a situation that affects us all, most importantly the swiftly growing problems in our oceans,” said Boyd in a statement about the collaboration with Hurley. “We start herein as surfers and musicians and are moving forward as stewards of our island.”

Takeover LA is doing some interesting things with film, fixed gear culture and BMX. Peep this film of Santa Monica rider, Hernan Montenegro. The BMX portion of the film that starts at 2:01 is amongst one of my favorites.

Although, I’d have to say I was skeptical at first because of the influx of bandwagon riders to the fixie culture. But BMX is something I have always liked, Hernan shows mastery and versatility with his ability to do both.

Hold Fast FRS (Foot retention system) were developed by urban fixed gear riders on NYC’s streets. The system has been developed over the past 8 months and is hands down one the best foot retention systems employed.

Its the hours of struggle and practice that give us a perfect moment. Matt Hoffman’s no handed 900 is an example of that. The Condor lands and kills it.

The STAGES project features Lance Armstrong’s work with several of the most amazing artists/ designers of our generation. Among the few are Jose Parla, Shepard Fairey and Kaws. Amazing that the artists will lend a hand for a better cause and inspire this generation to work for something greater than themselves.

Filmed over the period of a few months in and around Edinburgh by Dave Sowerby, this video of Inspired Bicycles team rider Danny MacAskill (more info at www.dannymacaskill.com) features probably the best collection of street/street trials riding ever seen. There’s some huge riding, but also some of the most technically difficult and imaginative lines you will ever see. Without a doubt, this video pushes the envelope of what is perceived as possible on a trials bike.
