Graffiti Beach supports Up and Coming Fashion Designers, Artists and Musicians to make their way in the industry.Yesterday I got invited to check out the fashion show/ pool party by a friend who works as a model for the show. We arrived four deep at the Angelino hotel in Brentwood, Los Angeles ready to have a good time! We quickly made our way to the pool but the fashion show hadn’t started yet, so Cheyne thought it would be a good idea to roam around the hotel while we waited. We took a trip up the elevator…got off at the 16th floor.. and found ourselves walking into the board room of the hotel. There was a large table with a projector screen for board meetings and such…so we decided to have a meeting of our own…

After a few very important business calls, we noticed the balcony had a sick view.

After hanging in the room for a half hour we decided to go back down stairs and hit the pool. But before going down the elevator we went to check out the room where the models were getting ready…

The Train!! Guru Purnima festival

Thousands of Hindu devotees in India traveled on a crowded train to the temple city of Goverdhan, 91 miles south-east of Delhi, yesterday for the Guru Purnima festival. Hindu devotees travel on a crowded passenger train to take part in the “Guru Purnima” festival in Goverdhan town near the northern Indian city of Mathura July 24, 2010. Guru Purnima is observed to pay respects to one’s “guru” or teacher who symbolizes the Hindu Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, believed to be the creators of the universe and will be celebrated on Sunday. Can you see the train!!

Guru Purnima, or Guru’s full moon day, is observed in many parts of India by disciples paying respect to their gurus or teachers. The day is also of significance to many Hindu farmers, as it heralds the start of the monsoon season, rains being essential to producing a good crop.

Mike Giant Returns to LA this Saturday.

For those of you who don’t know, Mike Giant is the Original Giant. He’s returning to LA for a show this Saturday at Barracuda.

Mike Giant’s career is the result of genuine curiosity and decades of drawing for five hours a day. He’s been—and remains—a world-class graffiti writer, tattooist and illustrator with his REBEL8 line. He’s made zines, skateboard designs, animations, prints, collages and stacks of interesting artist and company collaborations. He travels all over the world, rides his bikes, practices mindfulness, smokes a gang of weed, and is a fully tattooed goofball that one can bring to dinner parties.

Whether a page drawn in a friend’s black book amid collected signatures of other graffiti writers, or the large-scale works he hangs in galleries, Mike Giant’s drawings will fool you, even up close. The cleanliness, razor edges and solid blacks of the images all come from a Sharpie and Mike’s surgeon-steady hand, but look like they were printed. “In some ways, I took a lot of pride in that,” Mike explains. “As the graphic world has become more fixated on vector graphics, I think I wanted to show that I could replicate the same results by hand, thereby usurping the notion that computers are somehow ‘better,’ which I think is bullshit.”
