The Dark Knights Rises…

Trailer for the New Batman Movie.

While the strength and originality of Christopher Nolan’s movie is clearly evident in the first two movies, will it be evident in the completion of this trilogy? I think the Choice of Bane is villain is an interesting path. I’m not sure why suddenly the movie dropped off the Riddler and Johnny Depp in the cast.

Although lacking the mainstream popularity with such villains as the Joker, Penguin or the Riddle, for true die hard comic fans, Bane is the pinnacle of a complex villain. With Superhuman Strength fueled by a dependency on Venom a steroid like substance, Bane also posses a near genius intellect and is known for breaking Batman’s back in the Dark Gotham Story Arc.

What brought striking originality to the story arc’s the previous movie’s were that they were able to recreate the characters and complex story lines that worked well for the movie, rather than sticking so closely to the comic. While die-hard fans often complain a movie follows the comic too closely, as with the Watchmen, a well-written as well as well-directed movie is able to balance the story telling of the comic with an original twist by the director. Batman’s Origins in the first movie, utilizing the very interesting Ra’s Al Ghul for the origins of his combat and fighting methods was something I haven’t seen before. It brought a new story telling arc to the series with stunning visuals as well as a developed back story.

Utilizing Heath Ledger’s performance of The Joker in a very Dark Twisted version of the Joker, also took the story into an original twist. What I feel about the title of the new movie, The Dark Knight Rises is it feels very much like a sequel without the ability to stand alone like the other movies have had. We will see.

Ice Cube Celebrates The Eames..

Posted in Architecture, Art, Celebrate The Difference, Film, Music on December 8th, 2011 by Bear

Ice Cube illustrates his esoteric knowledge and reveals that he used to study architecture before his career in hip hop. In his segment of interview with the NY Times, Cube takes us on a tour of a few architectural landmarks. An artist revealing his multifaceted nature is an example of Celebrating The Difference, Cube dropping his knowledge in architecture and paying tribute to Eames is nothing short of that.

“What was appealing was showing off Los Angeles to people who think they know what Los Angeles is all about… Everybody who comes here thinks they got the place figured out, but you can never get this place figured out.”

Driving down Inglewood Boulevard in South LA, the rapper also breaks down “the good, the bad and the ugly” about art and architecture in Los Angeles. Things that make his good list: the Forum, 5 Torches, Cockatoo Inn and Watts Towers.

For Ice Cube, the worst thing about LA is the worst thing on everyone’s list: traffic. The 405 is filled with “bougie traffic.” The 110 is “gangsta traffic.” “There’s a difference!” he insists. “You gotta know where you at.”
