NOVA is a new kind of creative event, open to public, which takes over MIS, Museu da Imagem e do Som in São Paulo, Brazil, and presents live collaborated work in progress processes by more than 100 selected artists from around the world, featuring live art, music & audiovisuals; performances, video screenings, round tables, workshops and many unpredictable social consequences. 7 weeks of non-stop serious art fun. An interactive, full-environmental experience utilizing color, light, textures, music and design, in the form of collaborative and integrated compositions by more than 100 artists from around the world.

From hand-made illustrations to large scale murals to modern digital art; moving image to multimedia convergence, art will be made without the limitations or restrictions of traditional format and will rely heavily on the magic of live improvisation. During this constantly evolving and mutating exhibition, the creative process are to be witnessed as an ongoing work in progress rife with experimentation, challenging traditional and contemporary techniques and the bending of modern technology. Only for the happy, the gifted, the curious and the open minded.

Anyone that has skated, danced, painted on a wall, or taken part in some sort of artistic movement in their lives can relate to this movie on some level. One thing, that this film reminded me of is the separation between sport and art which can determined by style, something that cannot be quantified. Instead of doing what everyone else was doing, this group of individuals chose to rise above the structure that society had given them and to pursue their art as a way to provide for their lives. Even through the very tough times, everyone in the film still had each other for support, in the end they skated because of their love for the art, not for money, fame or anything else.

The Cemetery of Reason from Emerica Europe on Vimeo.

Ed Templeton is one of the first skateboarder-turned fine artists who represent the originals in the do it yourself movement. “The Cemetery of Reason” is one of the more cumulative shows up to date of Templeton’s work. Templeton recently held his biggest art show to date, exhibited at the S.M.A.K. Gent in Belgium. This video, shot by Emerica, documents the show and captures the opening night for your viewing pleasure. For those interested in attending, “The Cemetery of Reason” runs through June 13th, 2010.

Not too long ago Ed was featured in the beautiful Losers documentary alongside artists such as Shepard Fairey, Margaret Killagen, and Barry Mgee aka Twist. On a more personal note, Ed used to live down the street from all of us in a house on the HB/ Fountain Valley border and sell his customade decks. Its interesting to be able to see what he has done since then and relate to back then.

    Today was a was a day of new beginnings here at Civil. Today we opened doors to  our new skate team. We have been planning on doing this for quite a while now and  felt like 2010 was the right time to take action. Skateboarding is one of the many things we support! If you have been following us since the begining you’ll know that we support many cultures. Within these cultures, we support the underdog…those who pay dues with nothing to lose…the ones doing it for the love and not the money…passion before greed…Civil Regime 2010!!!  This is our movement…we the people!! Although the team isn’t fully flared yet…we have one official rider and a few potentials. That means that we are accepting new regime members…so send in that video!
