Though the World Cup is over and the talk of the town is still on Spain becoming World Cup champions for the first time in its history, there is another, albeit smaller, story making the rounds: what was up with that trophy case? If you didn’t catch it, the World Cup trophy was transported onto the field after the Netherlands defeat in a custom-made Louis Vuitton carrying case. Interesting, eh?

The only thing truly custom about this Louis Vuitton carrying case (made for the only true “world” event other than the Olympics, to remind you), is its shape. It was handmade to perfectly conceal the 14.5 inch high trophy, but the case’s aesthetic design stays true to Louis Vuitton style by displaying the same logo around its entire frame that has been classically featured on women’s purses and luggage. No FIFA, World Cup, or African designs- just straight-up, brown and tan LV. Seems like it was a subliminal advertisement on a global stage. But hey, its an fascinating note for you fashionistas out there. Here is a look into the making of this trophy case, embellished with the LV logo, which inevitably played its small role in sporting history.

A video has been circulating recently featuring Guillaume Nery, a world champion freediver, performing a unique dive into Dean’s Blue Hole; the deepest under water sink hole of it’s sort on the planet. It plunges 202 meters deep into a bay west of Clarence Town on Long Island, Bahamas. Nery was filmed by fellow French champion-diver Julie Gautier for a few consecutive days in order to capture the films breath-taking images. It is originally intended by the two divers to be a work of “fiction,” as the film gives the impression that Nery reaches the bottom of the sinkhole, though he never truly did. Nery has said he wished to use the film as a means of showing what freediving is, and the complexity of the sport.

It is a beautiful film regardless, and captures the raw thrill of free-diving for the many people who have yet to witness the sport.

Walking out of the United Red carpet at LHR to the main hall I saw spectacular cars given away by purchasing a lottery for 100 English pound.

One of the Cars was the Ferrari F430. T he Ferrari F430 was a sports car produced by the Italian automaker Ferrari from 2004 to 2009, as a successor to the 360. It debuted at the 2004 Paris Motor Show. Its replacement, the Ferrari 458 Italia, was unveiled on 28 July 2009 and is expected to go on sale in Spring 2010

Celebration are visible across the world with each cheering for their team as they battles the best in the world.

A man wearing the colours of the South Africa soccer team, yells as he holds replicas of the Soccer World Cup trophy in central Johannesburg

Thousands of South Africans take to the streets of Sandton in Johannesburg to show their support for Bafana Bafana (South Africa’s national football team) as they parade in an open bus two days before the opening of the FIFA 2010 World Cup.

Reflecting back on the World Cup through the years, the 2006 held in Germany with the final game between Italy and France.

The first-half held promise of a memorable final, but as we know, it was destined not only to peter out in penalties, but to be besmirched by Zinedine Zidane’s assault on Marco Materazzi. Italy won the World cup

Tomorrow, Friday June 11th the 2010 World Cup games will start.

One of the first game to watch is between South Africa and Mexico.

Will Mexico win against South Africa? Your thoughts?

It was reported before Game 2 of the NBA Finals that Doc Rivers, coach of the Boston Celtics, hid $2600 in cold-hard cash in the roof of the visitor’s lock room in Staples Center. The cash was placed there after Boston’s last game against the Lakers during the regular season, 3 1/2 months ago. Rivers collected $100 from players, coaches, and staff, gathered it in a suitcase and placed it over a ceiling tile in the locker room. Using this as motivation, Rivers looked at his players and told them the only way to get the cash back (as if they really needed it), was to make it back to LA for the Finals to face the Lakers.

And as he hoped, they did come back. No one outside the people present in the room knew about the bag, not even those working at Staples Center. When they returned for Game 1, they retrieved the money they had hoped to reclaim.

The Lakers and Celtics are now tied at one game a piece in the Finals, with LA visiting Boston for three straight. Both teams have more than money riding on these next few games, but stealing wins from Boston from under their own roof will more than make up for the Celts hiding green in Staples Center. Go LA.

This is dope. Although still a concept, Mexico city design agency AGENT has developed a soccer ball with GPS-like functionality. In essence, this tracking system can alert officials as to whether or not a ball is in-bounds or has crossed a goal line. The technology includes accelerometer based velocity tracking to detect aspects of force and pressure being able to detect pressure and force.

from Agent: ‘CTRUS’ functional principle is based on the mechanical properties of its materials. it is composed by an inner structure (skelle-core) and an outer net-embedded shell, made out of reinforced elastomers. These pieces have different durometer according to its structural location. the flexibility provided by its materials, emulates the bounce of an inflated pneumatic soccer ball, but offers the advantage of not loosing air. CTRUS doesn’t need air in order to perform.
