The Landscape Altered webisode, the first in a four-part series which follows Mitch Coleborn, Clay Marzo, Jay Davies, Josh Kerr and Chippa Wilson on a boat trip through Indonesia’s Mentawai Islands on a mission to film the winning wave of the 2010 Kustom Air Strike. The winner of Kustom Airstrike receives a US$50,000 cash bounty, the richest single-move prize in world surfing.

Hot Days and Good Waves…

With 80 degree weather and multiple swells lined up for the next few days you cant ask for much more. There is a fun mix of NW swell hitting South Los Angeles right now, which for me is great because I get in the car and drive 10 minutes and I’m surfing perfect lefts with nobody out. As for this weekend since a good size south swell should be hitting South OC. You can probably catch me and a few other members of the Regime surfing Lowers.

Ill be heading down to surf this left in about an hour.

Lowers going bonkers with a minimal crowd. Which is a very rare site.

This is more like the lowers crowd we all know.

Redondo breakwater 2010 winter pt.3

As you’ve noticed, I have been documenting the swell that has been going on at the Redondo beach break wall. Yesterday I went back to break-wall with high hopes and wishful thinking. I did my normal routine…I parked the car, got out and ran toward the guarding brick wall which surrounds the beach. To my surprise I looked out and saw what I, and many others have been waiting for. Today was the day!! Waves that resembled small mountains were rolling in at 20 ft on the face. Only the more daring surfers walked the warrior path into the water to challenge mother nature. Some were victorious… Some weren’t so lucky…

James Luhrsen “Sarge”… Local at this beach for over 30 years. Still charging! If you look closely at the nose of his board he has a sergeant badge to show who’s boss in the water. Don’t mess with Sarge…

Jude Luhrsen…another local with seniority, and a known ”enforcer”… walks the path to face the giants.

I don’t know if there will be another swell like this in the year 2010…but if there is…I’ll be there..till next time…see ya.

I pulled into the parking lot this morning with great expectations. As I ran up to the guarding brick wall and stared out to the ocean I noticed that it wasn’t 15 foot?!! Although it wasn’t as big as the report said it would be, there was still some sizable waves out there. I took a small amount of pictures before I headed out. Before I left, the locals said the conditions would be better tomorrow. I guess I’ll just wait till tomorrow morning. In the mean time…I will take some flicks of what some of the boys are doing tonight…haha. Anyway, here’s a few pictures from today…the rain didn’t help as I was trying to get a few pictures.

There is an enormous amount of history at this beach to say the least, but I will save that story for another day. For the next few days I will be documenting the swell at the Break Wall to show you exactly what goes on in and out of the water.Redondo Breakwall is one spot in the South Bay that is known to hold up on big days. Yesterday the swell started filling in as locals took their boards and headed for the water. Although the surfers were only out for a short period of time…I happen to capture a few shots of them before they got out.

Friday is supposed to be the biggest day to come. So stay tuned for some pics and maybe a few short interviews with the locals.
