Recognizr?!! Uh-oh….

Posted in All, Culture, Life, Technology on February 25th, 2010 by Michael

” The Astonishing Tribe has come up with a brand new augmented reality application that targets mobile devices, known as the Recognizr. Basically, the Recognizr enables one to check out who a particular person is as well as the social network(s) which they are connected to. It will save you a whole lot of trouble as well by linking whoever it sees back to your address book profile, showing off their important details such as name, address and phone number among others. It seems that a commercial application of the Recognizr will roll out within the upcoming months, so stay tuned!” -ubergizmo.com

This new application might make things a little crazy…what are your thoughts about it?

Gizmodo: Curious displays

Posted in All, Art, Culture, Film, People, Technology on February 24th, 2010 by Bear

Curious Displays from Julia Tsao on Vimeo.

Is this the wave of the future for concept designs. The effect is amazing, but is the design truly practical. Even for the avant- garde enthusiast, I feel the pragmatism of this application is a bit out of left field.

If you needed a reminder of where the remote was, a colony  of these devices could go form an arrow pointing at it. A bunch more could make up a shopping list for you near the fridge. And so on and so forth.

Is a location-based display really needed? Is this something a phone, tablet or another application could not solve.

Maybe Curious displays are the wave of the future, or not.

Thanks Nosaj Thing and Julie Tsao…

Robotagger….

Robotagger: GML + ABB4400 from Golan Levin on Vimeo.

GML (Graffiti Markup Language) drawings from 000000book.com are converted into DXF via a small Processing utility. Motion paths for a robot arm are developed from these DXF files using Rhino and MasterCam. The ABB IRB-4400 series arm is wielding a 2″ Montana Hardcore marker. Developed 11 January 2010 by Golan Levin and Jeremy Ficca in the CMU Digital Fabrication Laboratory (dFAB).

Pretty cool to see this. It’s safe to say that these bots, markers will never replace a individual’s style and soul. But more proof that technology is remarkable these days.

At at a whooping $69, is this product worth the purchase price. Apple has always been innovative and user friendly with its products, developing a broad audience, but will product become a staple for audiences.

The new Magic Mouse now uses multi-touch sensors similiar to the iPhone and the MacBooks track pad, plus the whole thing is a giant button. So now you can left and right click, and it knows what you’re trying to do. You can also scroll anywhere on it’s surface as well as use multi-touch gestures to do things like flip pages or browse Cover Flow in iTunes.
