This past weekend “33rd” in Los Angeles had live painting by artist such as Risk, Kofie, Mear and others. We stopped by for a minute to capture some of the activities taking place.

As the featured artist painted their pieces we looked on and admired their skills.During all the watching and wandering I had the great opportunity to meet “Dabs” and “Myla” from Australia. They happened to be in the building that day  to sign some posters. We chopped it up and said our farewells..Back to Australia they go. However; look out for a Civil exclusive interview with the two of them coming shortly. Here’s some of their work…just so you can get more familiar with them before the interview drops. Enjoy!

      Gangstar was a key source of ‘good’ hip-hop for me in high school. Some of my  high school days consisted of trying to educate people on what is “real” hip-hop. Even though I was no pioneer, I felt like being involved in the hip-hop/bboy culture made me a soldier for what I stood for. hahaha I guess I felt better  listeningto Gangstar instead of Nelly. It was just one of those things that separated you from the norm in high school trends. I mean…of course I wanted Nelly’s stuff to hit when I wanted to bump and grinndd…but…If  ’Full Clip’ turned on… 5 people would go nuts, but out of those five, I was included! Pushing people out of the way to get that circle going…but of course, they never played that at a high school dance. I would probably just have to settle and break dance to ‘Chronic 2001′, which wasn’t bad. Anyway; I’m just sharing  how Gangstar played a small role in my life.If you have a short story…lets hear it. Here’s a few of my favorite hits from Guru and Dj Premiere..GANGSTAR!

Why on earth did he climb down that 200 foot cliff!? Drama is set in 1954, U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island.hahaha..Okay, if you haven’t seen the movie yet I might be spoiling it for you. First of all, I thought the movie was pretty dope…Another ‘Scorsazy’ film that lives up to it’s hype in my opinion. Adding to the equation was  mega star Leonardo DiCaprio doing what he does…There are a few key parts I would like to point out… Obviously I would like to know why on earth the ‘Chuck’  let Teddy Daniels climb down that 200 ft cliff…I understand he was letting him play out his delusions…BUT…Teddy was 98% likley to die doing that wild man stunt!!   

Another scene I liked was when Teddy was having one of his recurring dreams. In this dream Teddy was having a conversation with the head doctor…a few moments pass…then Teddy looks away for a moment…but when he looks back it isn’t the doctor anymore… it’s his partner ‘Chuck’.  This part tripped me out…I’ve had similar things happen in my dreams just like this. For instance…I’d be talking to a friend of mine at the begining of the dream…then all of a sudden…he turns into one of my relatives by the end of the dream…hahaha. I’m like…this dream did not start with you homie…where’d you come from! But anyway, Teddy Daniels seemed like he was having Lucid dreams…

“A lucid dream is a dream in which the sleeper is aware that she or he is dreaming. When the dreamer is lucid, she or he can actively participate in and often manipulate the imaginary experiences in the dream environment. Lucid dreams can seem extremely real and vivid depending on a person’s level of self-awareness during the lucid dream”.

Overall I recommend watching this movie…It’s one of those movies that ties everything together at the very end…so enjoy the ride.
