Celtic Coach Hides $2600 in roof of Staples Center
It was reported before Game 2 of the NBA Finals that Doc Rivers, coach of the Boston Celtics, hid $2600 in cold-hard cash in the roof of the visitor’s lock room in Staples Center. The cash was placed there after Boston’s last game against the Lakers during the regular season, 3 1/2 months ago. Rivers collected $100 from players, coaches, and staff, gathered it in a suitcase and placed it over a ceiling tile in the locker room. Using this as motivation, Rivers looked at his players and told them the only way to get the cash back (as if they really needed it), was to make it back to LA for the Finals to face the Lakers.
And as he hoped, they did come back. No one outside the people present in the room knew about the bag, not even those working at Staples Center. When they returned for Game 1, they retrieved the money they had hoped to reclaim.
The Lakers and Celtics are now tied at one game a piece in the Finals, with LA visiting Boston for three straight. Both teams have more than money riding on these next few games, but stealing wins from Boston from under their own roof will more than make up for the Celts hiding green in Staples Center. Go LA.
