PETE ROCK -TRU MASTA

Although this came up several years earlier, Pete Rock’s Tru Masta reminds me of the summer of 2000 when I was re-introduced to hip hop. Cruising in the summertime, dancing, going to shows, checking out the graff in Venice, this is one of the songs that served as inspiration for what we do. With Inspectah Deck and the James Brown intro from the New day, the horns, cadences make this jam a classic. Will Hip hop ever be like this?

Oh yeah if your wondering where the sample is from James Brown. Listen to the Intro of Tru Masta and compare it to 10 seconds into “A New Day”.
