When art truly grabs your soul

Spike Jonze definitely has a penchant and narrative for immense storytelling using beautiful, other-wordly images that carry a child-like innocence but a virtuoso mastery.

Who else reminds me of this? Oh yeah, Mozart..

Earlier this year, we documented Jonez’s use of shapes, places and forms in Absolut marketing campaign. Much like the previous work, the use of marketing takes everything to a whole new level. If you have 30 minutes and the ability to get through the rest of your work day by viewing a heart-rending meet-cute robot romance, then consider rushing it over to the Web site now hosting Spike Jonze’s short film I’m Here. The movie is a super limited limited-edition-viewing situation closely monitored by Jonze’s patrons at Absolut Vodka.

Fresh out of Sundance 2010, Spike spoke about the awkward process of designing the machines you see as the robot characters in the film.

“I’m Here may not have made it out of this twee purgatory alive were it not for the extraordinary presence of these characters — their animated eyes as suggestive as anything in Avatar, their bodies with the loose, limber spirit that accompanies new love”.

“Today, Spike Jonze’s highly anticipated short film, I’m Here, is globally released on www.imheremovie.com. This 30-minute robot love story was premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and thereafter screened at the Berlinale. Now it is made available to viewers around the world, through a striking online cinema experience. I’m Here is a creative collaboration with ABSOLUT VODKA, acknowledging the brand’s position as a pioneering and culture-shaping brand.

I’m Here is a love story about two robots living in contemporary Los Angeles. The sad-eyed robot librarian Sheldon (Andrew Garfield) leads a lonely and methodical life, until he one day meets Francesca, a creative and free-spirited female robot (played by Sienna Guillory). Robot romance develops and the story is just as beautiful as it is unpredictable.”
